Bungoma Youths Overjoyed As IT Guru Hosts Football Tournament To Keep Them Engaged

Parents with youngsters, especially teens, understand the struggle of keeping their minds engaged during the long holiday.

It is an extended period with the potential for chaos as many end up in trouble while seeking something to kill their boredom.

Redirecting energies toward positive pursuits

That is why INUA AI founder Humphrey Muchuma organized a football tournament in Khalala, Webuye, Bungoma County.

Muchuma told TUKO.co.ke that the initiative aimed to harness and nurture local football talent while addressing social challenges like teenage pregnancies and substance use.

According to the IT guru, the tournament is a collaborative effort between INUA AI and the D&RM Foundation.

"We aim to empower the youth through engaging in sporting activities, providing them an avenue to showcase their talents and redirect their energies toward positive pursuits," he said.

Photos from the tournament showed the young boys and girls, who mostly play without proper gear like boots, with smiling faces and expectant looks.

Dream come true for village teens

John Wafula, Chairman of the tournament, expressed his excitement about the initiative, stating that it is a dream come true for many young girls and boys in the village.

He emphasized the tournament's potential to cultivate a new generation of football stars while simultaneously curbing the rise of social vices in the community.

Muchuma underpinned the need for such tournaments during the festive season, adding that engaging in sports enhances productivity and instils positive values and virtues.

"Such sports initiatives offer openings to individuals to understand the digital space, which is critical for this generation," he said.

Muchuma teaches IT to less fortunate kids

Muchuma is no stranger to empowering the youth as he has often held free training camps for street children and orphans to learn IT skills.

In an earlier interview with TUKO.co.ke, he explained that kids from less fortunate backgrounds lack access to digital skills, which means they will struggle to break away from the chains of poverty.

For this reason, he launched an initiative to impart these skills and knowledge to these forgotten children.

The initiative focuses on children from Kayole slums, especially those between three and 13, including orphans, street children, and the abandoned.

"We seek to promote human capital development and empower these kids to compete for job opportunities in the future," he expressed.

Muchuma won global award

His entrepreneurial acumen, accentuated by the CSR project, earned him global recognition as he recently won the African Leadership Tourism Award.

The recognition highlighted the global impact of his efforts in empowering the next generation through digital skills training.

Muchuma's tournament comes at a time when Kenya's under-18 football team, Junior Stars, has impressed at the ongoing CECAFA tournament.

Junior Stars impress at CECAFA

Junior Stars won all three matches in the group stages, the most notable being a spirited comeback against Somalia.

In the pulsating match played at Bukhungu Stadium, Kenyan came from a goal down to win with four goals to one.

Arguably, the tournament's favourite moment was when a police officer saluted rising star Aldrine Kibet after he scored a stunning third goal.

The win ensured Kenya finished top of Group A with nine points and went into the CECAFA U-18 semi-finals unbeaten.

However, the salute moment by the police officer remained engrained in the minds of those who watched it in person and on TV.
