Busia - A young girl who overcame the odds to record a stellar performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is stranded at home.

Fraizer Anyango Odhiambo, who attended St. Teresa Girls Primary School, scored 378 marks and qualified for a spot in secondary school.

Which school was Odhiambo called to?

According to her mother, Wendy Onyango, Odhiambo was called to Ng'iya Girls High School following her results.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Onyango said her bright daughter remains at home because of a lack of school fees.

"Getting money to take our daughter to school has been a struggle. Neither my husband nor I have a stable job. We also have two small kids that need to eat and wear. It is difficult for us at the moment. Our income is too little," she heartbreakingly said.

How much is a watchman paid in Busia?

She noted her husband lost his job when their daughter Odhiambo was joining Grade 3, making it hard to pay school fees and attend to the house expenditures.

He looked for a job as a watchman where he was paid KSh 5,000 per month, but at one point, he worked for close to five months without being paid.

"He went to work one day and found they had closed the company, and they had shut it without giving him any pay," the Busia mum of four said.

She washes clothes for a living as her husband does menial jobs to sustain the hungry and needy family.

"My daughter is bright, and even now, when she is at home, she refers back to her books because she loves to read. If only she could get a scholarship or some help, then we would all be grateful," the mum said.

CS Owalo pays school fees for KCPE boy

A few days ago, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo offered a full scholarship to needy KCPE boy who pleaded for help in a viral poster.

He rescued David Odhiambo Muga, who scored 399 marks but lacked school fees to continue his education.

He was called to Maseno School, but his father and mother could not afford the hefty school fees.

Owalo stepped in after the boy made an online appeal seeking a sponsor to pay his secondary fees.
