Chairman Of Cancelled Bomet Wedding Gives Blow-to-Blow Account Of What Transpired

The faithful of a church in Bomet are still recovering from disbelief after the couple whose wedding they were to witness on Saturday, December 9, called off the event.

Amos would officially marry Nelly after a two-month period of preparations.

Pastor Clement Chalulot was the chairman of the wedding committee.

He says his team was equally shocked by the unforeseen turn of events, even as he maintained that they were still hopeful about seeing the duo solemnising their union, sooner or later.

Partially settled dowry

According to Chalulot, until D-day, all the arrangements had been seamlessly undertaken, the finances rightly set, all the necessary wares procured and the venue for the big day identified and booked.

A total of KSh 300,000 was in the coffers, with KSh 50,000 out of it being used to settle part of the dowry.

He said confusion emerged on Thursday, December 7, when the bride's parents failed to give up their details while processing the crucial certification and filling out the forms for use by the cleric charged with officiating at the ceremony.

"What we know is that the parents of the bride were good with the wedding. It was until recently that they had not submitted their particulars," said Chalulot.

The above was the solitary reason behind the cancellation of the wedding, according to the committee chair.

To him, this was a minor issue, and after everything had been resolved, the couple would be back on the aisle.

He said the couple had been handed more time to iron out the contentious issues before the wedding was rearranged.

Chalulot however dispelled the word peddled around that the bride had returned to her ex-fiance.

"Those are just rumours. What we know is the issue was on the side of the bride's parents. Otherwise, they are good people, her father is, in fact, a reverend in our church, we on well," he said.

Meanwhile, besides the inner circle of the couple and the church, the cancellation's impact was also felt by the outsider celebrants who had prepared themselves.

A Bomet native hilariously released a video urging the couple to reconsider their decision.

The aggrieved man said the wedding guests had psychologically prepared, and food was part of the plot, protesting that the cancellation had wasted their time and itchy taste buds.

"I was to start with managu and then move to the meat, then pilau, rice. The buffet would have been one for the books, but madam, you made one very big mistake. You are saying that you are not ready for marriage? Yaani, we had planned for everything. We had even brought heifers and cows that were fat.

Madam, I don't want to know how, but please come get married and then you can get divorced early. It's a must. I had prepared myself psychologically, mentally, and physically. My body was in shape. I don't want to know how you will come even if you don't love this man," said the disappointed would-be celebrant.
