Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated senator Crystal Asige has come to the defence of poor pupils who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education of results confusion.

Confusion over KCPE results

Just a few days after the KCPE results were released, confusion arose over some of the grades awarded to students.

Some had the same grades in some subjects, others had fewer marks, while others were allegedly graded for subjects they did not take in school.

While making her statement on the standing education committee, Asige demanded comprehensive data on all erroneous marking and grading of candidates from the KCPE results.

The areas that Asige specifically wanted to be addressed included cases where incorrect marks were awarded, wrong subjects were graded, and wrong results published.

"We want to know if the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) looked into each issue andif it explained why there were discrepancies in marks received by the candidates in marks on the KNEC portal and through the SMS service. provider," said the visually impaired politician.

Asige wants poor kids assisted to contest results

"We also want the detail of the gaps that caused the errors and how they have been addressed as well as why candidates received marks for subjects they did not sit for explained by KNEC," she said.

The legislator also wondered what steps the Ministry of Education, KNEC and other stakeholders were planning on taking about the confusion before the secondary school selection process begins so as not to disadvantage the other learners.

"Explain the time available for candidates to contest their results and if there are any steps taken by KNEC and the Ministry of Education to assist vulnerable learners and those from marginalised communities who may not have the access of information and resources to make these complaints," he said.

Asige emotionally protests removal of hawkers

In another story, Asige led a crowd of physically impaired hawkers to protest against Nairobi county for evicting them from the CBD.

During the demos, the visually impaired senator spoke emotionally and said that they did not want to beg but just to provide for their families.

According to the hawkers, they have been lumped together with other able-bodied hawkers and kicked out of the CBD.
