Eldoret: Drama In Court As Widow Protests Release Of Suspects In Husband's Murder

Uasin Gishu - Principal Magistrate Cherono Kese was at a crossroads while hearing the bond applications by two people held over the murder of a taxi driver in Eldoret.

Before the Eldoret Law Courts was Grace Muiruri, who was determined to convince the court against the applications.

The suspects facing charges related to robbery with violence have been identified as Peter Wanjala and Dan Kibet.

Widow's drama at Eldoret court

According to Grace, releasing the suspects, whom she told the court she was familiar with, on whatever terms would jeopardise the investigative efforts and course toward justice.

She drew her concerns from a missing suspect who disappeared to date after securing freedom on bond terms.

Grace was also concerned about her security, given she was the key witness in the case.

"You want to give them a bond, how will I co-exist with them? They will be out, seeing me every day as a witness, how will I interact with them? Where will I go after they have been released?" she posed to the court.

She was troubled that the suspects would get to reunite with their loved ones as she reeled from the grief of losing her family's breadwinner through murder.

"I am pained when I hear they are getting released on bond to join their families for Christmas as I shed tears. I am a witness in this case, how will I live? I am asking this court," she said before wailing in the courtroom.

The magistrate, touched by the widow's pleadings, directed the duo of suspects to remain in custody until February 2024, when their applications will be revisited.

"In the interest of all these, and to take the sentiments if the widow. I think you will just go back," the magistrate ruled.

The woman was convinced that the suspects who were following the proceedings from the dock were behind her husband's murder, given that one of them was found with the deceased's vehicle.

Her husband, John Muiruri, was found dead in Chepsonoi, Nandi county, in October this year after days of going missing.

Similar news was recently reported in Nakuru, where a family was sent into mourning following the mysterious death of their relative who was found dead by the roadside.

The deceased's wife, Faith Muthoni, said she received a distressing call from her husband, who claimed he had been abducted and was being held in a locked house.

Tragically, the following day, Muthoni learned that a body had been dumped by the roadside, and it was positively identified as her husband, Mwai.
