Kakamega: Senior Police Officer Dies As His Fielder Collides Head-On With Prado

A police inspector succumbed to his severe injuries after being involved in a road accident on the Kakamega-Kisumu highway on Sunday, December 24.

Inspector Alexander Leshan was driving a Toyota Fielder with his two colleagues as the occupants at the time of the accident, Citizen TV reported.

The officers on board were Inspector Bob Odhiambo and Police Constable Peter Ekai, both of the Shinyalu DCI office.

Leshan lost control of the vehicle and rammed into an oncoming Prado.

He was picked up from the scene with severe injuries to which he succumbed to upon arrival at the hospital with his injured colleagues.

Ekai, Odhiambo, and the driver of the Prado survived the accident with minor injuries.

Also caught in the midst of the crash was a passerby lady who was immediately admitted to the hospital.

The vehicle was towed to the Kakamega Central Police Station as investigators embarked on a probe into the accident.

Until his death, the now-deceased was based at the Khayega Police Station.

The accident came hours after another one on Sunday morning on the Kwale-Mombasa highway.

Two people died, with others having sustained severe injuries after a passenger bus and trailer collided.

The bus belonging to Mash Cool was en route to Malindi from Nairobi when it crashed into the Mercedes Benz truck near the Taru Town Center.

Preliminary investigations established the driver of the trailer could not keep to his lane, prompting the bus to veer off the road in a bid to escape it.

The cabin of the truck was wrecked following the impact of the collision, with the bus, equally wrecked, overturning beside the road.

The Red Cross had earlier confirmed in an update that 19 people were severely injured.

They were rushed to the Samburu Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were booked into the Kinango Sub County Hospital Mortuary.
