Kenyan Farmers Delivering Milk To Brookside Get KSh 323m Bonus Payout

Brookside Dairy, a prominent milk processor in the country, has declared that it will distribute KSh 323 million in bonuses to farmers who provided raw milk to the company over the course of the year.

On Saturday, December 9, farmers under contract with Brookside received an early Christmas gift as the company disbursed KSh 182 million in reward bonuses for milk delivered between June and November this year.

This comes on the heels of another significant payout of KSh 138 million made to farmers in June as reported by People's Daily.

In Kirinyaga county, farmers expressed their gratitude, describing Brookside's move as a fitting reward for their tireless efforts on the farms.

“We are now seeing a trend where dairy is a guaranteed source of income for families in Kirinyaga county. This explains why every family is now investing in a dairy cow, and Brookside is rewarding our hard work by paying us a bonus for every kilo we deliver to them,” Nancy Njoki, a farmer who delivers milk to Brookside said.

The latest bonus payout is part of a reward scheme established by Brookside, benefiting dairy groups and individual farmers across the country who enrolled in the program and supplied raw milk to the processor during the contract period.

Emmanuel Kabaki, Brookside’s general manager for milk procurement, emphasised that the rewards were granted to farmers who successfully met agreed-upon milk supply targets in both quantity and quality.

“The farmer groups and individual suppliers who benefitted are those who signed up for our reward scheme and were given raw milk supply targets for both quantity and quality. We are rewarding these farmers as a recognition of their toil in meeting these targets,” Kibaki said.

In other related news, a Ugandan company behind the Lato brand announced a plan to take over a Kenyan milk company in a strategic move aimed at overcoming local challenges and enhancing its market presence.

Maziwa, a holding company registered in Mauritius, has formally applied to the COMESA Competition Commission, seeking approval to acquire a 100% stake in Highland Creamers and Food Limited.

“The acquisition of the target will allow for a two-country manufacturing setup that will allow the merging parties to reduce turnaround time to customers and increase the value-addition in both Kenya and Uganda,” Pearl said to the competition commission as reported by Business Daily.
