Nairobi - In March 2023, President William Ruto announced a bold plan to cut the cost of cooking gas cylinders by more than half by June 2023.

The head of state promised that a six-kilogram gas cylinder would cost between KSh 300 and KSh 500.

“From June 2023, a 6 kg cylinder of cooking gas will cost KSh 500 or KSh 300,” Ruto said as the crowd cheered.

He spoke during the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and the second product of the Hustler Fund at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

As the year comes to an end, Kenyans have reprimanded Ruto over his promise.

But as Kenyans mark one year since the August 9, 2022, polls, most of his pledges are unfulfilled as Ruto confronts the reality of government and balancing competing national interests.
