To begin with, the deceased man dropped out of school in his early years, but whoever wrote the eulogy sugarcoated it.
"This sombre juncture imposed an exigent hiatus on Moses's scholastic trajectory, compelling him to relinquish the pursuit of knowledge prematurely," it read.
Similar words were chosen to describe the deceased man's marriage journey, indicating that he "entered into the sacred union with Beatrice Ajwang in the annum 1985."
The writer chose the long route instead of the usual simple grammar, explaining that the man and his wife were blessed with children.
"Their union, a crucible of shared joys and sorrow, bore the fruits of progeny - four sons," it complicated.
Arguably, the part that left many in stitches was how it described Moses as a farmer, referring to him as a "tenacious agrarian who will be remembered as a stalwart steward of the land."
Social media platforms erupted with reactions ranging from admiration for the poetic eloquence to bewilderment at the perceived ostentation.
Some appreciated the eulogy as a fitting homage to a Luo man, while others questioned the appropriateness of such complexity in a setting meant for collective mourning.
Victoria Nyanduko:
"Tenacious agrarian who will be remembered as the stalwart steward of land; kumbe mkulima hodari ana majina mengi."
Tony Chirah:
"Now that’s a celebration. By the time you are done reading, you don’t remember it was a funeral."
Wambũgũ Gĩthuuri:
"Hii kizungu yooote imeandikwa juu ya school drop out? Yaani ata yeye mwenyewe hawezi soma his own eulogy akiwa Mbinguni?"
Elsewhere, netizens were amused and intrigued by an elaborate eulogy of the late Temisto Grace Rutainura from Tanzania.
The eulogy highlighted the deceased's remarkable educational journey, starting from primary school to pursuing a PhD.
Temisto is said to have excelled academically throughout his schooling and led a lavish lifestyle before he suddenly fell ill.
Rutainura owned a fleet of high-end cars, including a Benz, Range Rover, and V8, the latter of which reportedly transported him to the hospital.
It also unravelled more details about Rutainura's extravagant possessions, including two top-of-the-line smartphones—an iPhone 13 Pro Max with a whopping 512 GB storage.
