A recently wedded couple's marriage took an unexpected turn just one week after their colourful wedding on November 4.

The Kenyan groom named Laban found himself in a difficult situation when his Tanzanian wife demanded he convert to Islam for their marriage to continue.

Bride shared hidden secret

He told TUKO.co.ke that he and the woman agreed on all aspects of their union before the wedding, and the wife's sudden change left him in shock.

Just when he thought he was going through a turbulent start to the marriage, the new bride disclosed that she had a long-standing secret.

"My wife told me she had a five-year-old boy living with his father," he said.

The heartbroken groom revealed that he had no qualms about the baby, but that bit of changing from Christian to Islam was out of the question.

Problems started after 7 days

One week after the grand wedding, the couple fought so bitterly that they ended up in a Tanzanian court.

Laban says the proceedings led to a divorce, with the wife facing further consequences for deceiving her husband.

She was sentenced to a few days behind bars for her role in the tumultuous events surrounding their short-lived marriage.

After the divorce was finalized, the husband made a surprising decision by forgiving his ex-wife and returning to Kenya.

Where it all began

The heartbroken groom recalled meeting the would-be bride while looking for a data entry assistant.

She was among six ladies who came for the interview, and something about her endeared her to him.

"We talked for a while, and because it coincided with a time I needed a companion, we started dating and moved in together," he said.

After seven months of dating, they decided to make things official, only for the marriage to crumble within one week.

Mother scolds daughter-in-law

Meanwhile, the mother of the Bomet groom, whose wedding was cancelled recently came out guns blazing against the would-be bride.

The woman, identified as Sarah, disclosed that she was Amos's mother and had accepted Nelly wholeheartedly as a daughter-in-law.

She urged her to find another man and leave her son alone because she had not been truthful during their courtship.
