Narok - Residents of Kapweria area are reeling from shock following a bizarre incident where a 13-year-old girl hacked her mother to death using a machete.

The teenager reportedly attacked her mother and killed her following a dispute over a mobile phone.

Transmara East sub-county police boss Boniface Kavoo confirmed the tragic occurrence, stating that the girl attacked her 55-year-old mother, leaving her with deep cuts to her head.

A report by Citizen Digital revealed that the lady later succumbed to her injuries after a lot of bleeding.

The police chief disclosed that neighbours responded to cries from the homestead and found the victim writhing in pain while pleading for help.

Why did the 13-year-old Narok girl attack her mother

Kavoo stated that the dispute arose when the mother wanted to take the phone her daughter was using to text.

According to Kavoo, the deceased was a strict disciplinarian and wasn't happy about her daughter communicating without her knowledge.

"It's a scenario where her mother wanted to repossess the phone her daughter was using to chat with. It seems the deceased was a strict mother, and she wasn't happy about her girl doing a lot of communication without her knowledge. The suspect used all the means to fight her mother back, which ended in a fatality," he said.

She allegedly threw the murder weapon into a pit latrine to hide the evidence but confessed to killing her mother for not giving her some freedom.

The body was taken to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary while the suspect is being held at Emurua Dikiir police station.

In a related incident, police in Murang'a launched investigations into an incident in which a 68-year-old woman was killed by her son after a dispute in Gaturo village.

The woman, identified as Magdalene Wangechi, was hacked to death by her son, Patrick Irungu, aged 36.

According to the family members, Wangechi had cooked bananas, but Irungu demanded ugali.
