Kenyans in the United States of America are buying land in droves, and the process of getting property for many was made easier by their fellow countryman, identified as Stephen Kamau.

Kamau leaves for the US

Kamau, who was raised in Kariobangi South back in Kenya, landed in America just after clearing Form Four at Nairobi School in 2000.

In an interview on Daring Abroad, Kamau said he first settled in College Station, Texas, before moving to Dallas.

"I worked various jobs, among them working at Capital One Bank. However, in 2007, there was a recession due to real estate credit issues happening in the US. A lot of us got retrenched," he shared.
"I was a member of Neema Gospel Church, and Bishop Jackson Kingori used to invite us for early morning prayers. One day the pastor heard about an opening in the insurance field, so he called me and asked me to apply for the job. I have been in that industry from 2007 until now," he said.

Kenyans are buying land in US

In 2018, Kamau ventured into real estate and started combining real estate and insurance through his Exellion Group.

"People buy land in America; Kenyans are buying land in America. I sell homes, commercial buildings, if someone wants to lease I do that too," said the realtor.
"I am open to everybody, I sell mostly to Kenyans because I am an easy reference for them as I understand Kenyans. The requirements are they should have the right paperwork; valid visa and work permit. As long as they are legal, they are okay," he said.

Kamau has been in insurance for 15 years

Apart from real estate, Kamau has been in the insurance industry for the last 15 years. He shared that he has dealt with property and casualty, life, and health insurance policies.

He also managed general agents and real estate and dealt with claims adjusting.

"I'm encouraging everybody to transfer that risk from them to the insurance. When it comes to Kenyan clients, you have to start with someone from the bottom, help them and educate them," he said.

So far, Kamau has helped 60 -70 families buy homes, and about 20 families have bought land through him.

US-based woman thanks mum for buying land

In March 2023, a Kenyan woman was elated to visit plots her mum bought while she was alive.

The lady, Charity Gachenge, noted that she never quite got where her mum's money went as they struggled with finances.

The plots collectively are worth KSh 50 million, and she was grateful that her mum invested well.
