Taxi Driver Who Ferried MP Muchai's Killers Leaves Country After Saying His Life Was In Danger

What happened to Morris Njuguna? That is the question that has lingered in the minds of many Kenyans after the former taxi driver came out to reveal that his life was in danger.

Njuguna's story started in February 2015 when he unknowingly ferried the killers of ex-MP Muchai in his cab and overheard them talking about a murder.

The good citizen he is, the family man approached the police with the information, hoping to help with their investigations.

He was kept under witness protection, but as soon as he testified in the case, Njuguna painfully claimed that the government abandoned him.

Abandoned by gov't

In an earlier story by TUKO.co.ke, a dejected Njuguna lamented that he had been promised a new life abroad to start afresh, but it turned out to be a hoax.

With the government, which had sworn to ensure his safety, abandoning him, Njuguna's life turned upside down as he became a marked man.

"If only I wouldn't have testified, I would not be going through all this pain. I'd be doing things freely," he lamented.

Due to the happenings in his life, Njuguna's wife and the mother of their three children left, leaving him to face his demons alone.

Freedom, at last

TUKO.co.ke caught up with Njuguna, who was going out of the country to a safe hideout that he refused to divulge, understandably so.

"I have been living an uneasy life since this whole thing started. I couldn't stay in one place for long, and I was receiving so many calls, some that weren't genuine," he said.

Njuguna admitted that he was relieved and thanked members of the public who offered financial and emotional assistance.

He explained that, as much as he would start life afresh in a new country, he was confident the sponsors would stand by him until he stabilised.

Njuguna regrets being state witness

Njuguna says he regrets offering the information because the police shouldn't have paraded him as a witness.

He says his horrible experience shows why many Kenyans keep information to themselves.

"People told me that I shouldn't have given my testimony. What they do not know is that the way the case was progressing, right now, I would be in prison," he narrated.

Njuguna's exit from the country marks the end of eight years doted with lies, a burden he bore alone.
