In a video shared by Nation, one of KDF's drones captured a group of suspected bandits lurking in the shrubs.

The drone's camera zoomed in to show four people armed with guns standing as they casually talked.

They kept conversing as everyone had a sip of a substance in a mug, which they passed among themselves.

The men appeared to have noticed the camera before walking off the camera's view as it slowly zoomed out.

Kithure Kindiki declares 6 Counties hit by banditry safe

In August, after months of deploying different security strategies in the North Rift, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki reported good progress.

While appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security, Kindiki said the security operation yielded a peaceful wild North.

"The Joint National Police Service and Kenya Defence Forces Maliza Uhalifu Operation in the North Rift Valley Region initiated five (5) months ago, has been successful and yielded a peaceful and relatively calm environment in the six (6) Counties of Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, Laikipia, Elgeyo Marakwet and Samburu," Kindiki reported.

The Interior CS said the joint security operation comprising officers from the Kenya Defence Forces and other police units apprehended criminals and recovered weapons from suspected bandits.

A month later, Kindiki issued a shoot-to-kill order against criminals who target security officers or camps.

"In the fight against banditry and livestock theft, the multi-agency security officers will target individual criminals," Kindiki said.
