William Ruto Releases KSh 2.1b For Elderly, Vulnerable Kenyans: "Payments Commence On Monday 4th"

• Over one million senior citizens and caregivers of vulnerable persons under the Inua Jamii Programme will receive the monies released by the Exchequer
• The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection announced that the beneficiaries would start earning on December 4
• Inua Jamii is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable Kenyans by providing them with a stipend to alleviate poverty, hunger and sickness

Nairobi - Kenyans enrolled in the Inua Jamii Programme are slated to get their stipend after the national government released the monies allocated for that.

Through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the national government announced that KSh 2.1 billion would be channelled toward the programme.

How much will each beneficiary earn?

Complimenting Inua Jamii would be the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) programme, for which KSh 6.1 million was allocated.

The beneficiaries are to start getting the monies as of December 4.

"The funds were credited to the accounts of 1,044,621 Inua Jamii beneficiaries, with each beneficiary receiving KSh 2,000 being payment for November 2023. Following a presidential directive in July 2023, beneficiaries have been receiving payments on a monthly basis," said the Ministry in a communique.

Over a million Kenyans are under the programme; each will have at least KSh 2,000 for December.

KSh 2.08 billion was released in October, with each beneficiary receiving KSh. 2000.

In January this year, the government released KSh 8.5 billion for Inua Jamii.

The director of Social Protection at the Ministry of Labour, Judy Tuda, said the payments were meant for July, August, September and October.

Tuda explained that each beneficiary would receive KSh 8,000 starting Monday, January 12.

Objective of Inua Jamii

The programme targets vulnerable Kenyans, including the elderly, orphans and those with severe disabilities.

Inua Jamii was launched in 2015 by retired president Uhuru Kenyatta as a pilot programme that covered 500 households in 3 districts.

Since then, the programme has been expanded to cover more than 1 million beneficiaries.

The Government of Kenya fully funds the program.

It targets orphans, vulnerable children, older persons aged 70 years and above, and people with severe disabilities.

The objective was to uplift the lives of poor and vulnerable Kenyans through regular and reliable cash transfers.

To register for the programme, one ought to visit the nearest Social and Development Services offices in their location.
