By 2003, they measured an astounding 7 m 51.3 cm (24 ft 7.8 in), earning her the Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female).

With meticulous care and frequent manicures, Lee's nails continued to grow, reaching a length of 8.65 m (28 ft 4.5 in) in 2008. This record persisted until it was broken by Diana Armstrong in 2022.

Lee embraced the challenge of growing her nails as a personal experiment, wanting to see how long they could get before they "started twisting out of shape."

Lee led a normal life despite long nails

Despite their extraordinary length, she managed to lead a normal life, performing daily tasks like washing dishes, using a mobile phone, cutting her children's hair, and even driving a car.

Devoting significant time to nail care, Lee treated her nails with warm olive oil, cleaned them with a toothbrush, and applied nail hardener, followed by her signature gold polish.

Her nails became long, beautiful arches, defying the expectation that they might hinder her daily activities.

In 2006, Lee briefly considered cutting her nails when her husband Donald was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

However, she decided against it, realising her nails did not impede her ability to care for him.

Lee lost her long finger nails

Tragically, in 2009, Lee lost her famous fingernails in a car crash. She survived the incident but suffered serious injuries.

Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, expressed deep sadness at Lee's passing, describing her as a remarkable human being and an icon who emphasised the importance of celebrating differences.

Despite the loss of her iconic nails, Lee continued to use her status as a record holder to give motivational speeches, encouraging self-esteem and tolerance.

She leaves behind a legacy of uniqueness and acceptance.

Lee Redmond is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings. Her funeral is scheduled for December 21 in Utah.

Man stuns Kenyans with extra long nails

In a related story, John Waweru has always attracted wild stares from Kenyans who marvel at his extraordinary set of long nails.

The resident of Migadini in Mombasa claims to have been growing the nails and meticulously maintaining them for an astounding 22 years.

In a video, Waweru's mind-boggling display of his nails garnered widespread attention and bewilderment from netizens.

Twitter user @iamjoseh_ shared the mesmerising clip that captures the Mombasa man delicately flaunting his nails painted in the Kenyan flag colours, each one seemingly longer than the other.
