Luxury Boot Camp In Malibu Forces Celebs To Endure Rigorous Workouts

While some celebrities have personal trainers or crazy fitness regimes, others have decided to go more natural and attend fitness boot camps. Many celebrities have been gathered at a boot camp in Malibu called the Ranch 4.0, an offshoot of The Ranch at Live Oak.

4.0 is a four-day program to help visitors live healthier and costs a hefty $4,100. Guests are taken on multi-hour hikes while being given a minimum of vegan nutrition, reportedly just six almonds, or an apple, or four carrot sticks. Guests must complete a 30-day pre-itinerary detox to prepare for their visit, and are not supposed to bring their own food to the retreat.

The Ranch is not all sustainable torture, and guests stay at a luxurious Four Seasons hotel for the duration, complete with WiFi and other amenities. Afternoons are used to nap, do stretches, core exercises or weights, and get a daily massage. The organic vegan meals offer up about 1,400 daily calories, total. The workers at the program are very kind and gentle with the guests (aside from leading the long hikes) and will even tend to their swollen feet the mornings before the hikes. While the Ranch offers the option to unplug, it is far from being required.

The Ranch is part of a new "wellness tourism" industry that expanded by $60 billion dollars from 2012 to 2013. The ranch's famous visitors include Lea Michele, Minka Kelly, Selma Blair, and Rebel Wilson. Wilson reportedly lost 8 pounds with the program. Others who go through the program have reported not to lose any weight at all, but gain the satisfaction of accomplishing a crazy feat of survival. As with many camps, sometimes the connections that visitors make on the long hikes are the highlight of the trip.

There is also a week-long program at the Live Oak/Malibu location, which costs $6,800, and a ten-day program for $10,200.
