Award-winning photojournalist Tony Hillary, formerly of the Nation Media Group, is sadly no more.

Hillary gets two asthma attacks

According to Kisumu Journalists' Association chairman Rushdie Oudia, the decorated scribe died of an asthma attack at the Kimilili Sub-county Hospital on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

"He was with his wife and younger brother when the first attack struck at 7.30pm, and they gave him an inhaler; he got better and went to rest," Rushdie told TUKO.co.ke.

"About 40 minutes later, he got another attack and was rushed to the hospital. His brother reported that there was some delay before they attended to him. He rested shortly afterwards," he continued.

In his tribute, Rushdie eulogised his friend and fellow scribe as a brilliant photojournalist who was always jovial and a people person.

Hillary promises to tell his story

A few days before his untimely death, Hillary took to his Facebook page and wrote that stories would be about him one day.

"One day my story will be told of how, in a moment's grace, my destiny took hold.To Bungoma, a village town, my compass did turn, from Kisumu, my hometown, where my comfort did yearn," he wrote.
"Someday day my tale will be told, of how in a split second my destiny took hold. One day I will tell you the full story!" he added.

Sadly, the story many waited to hear has gone with him.
