The gymnast disclosed that one challenge was the language barrier.

“You may assume everyone speaks English, but language fluency can be challenging. Mastering a new language takes time and effort.”

The second challenge Waeni listed was the culture shock she faced.

“Your new home's customs, traditions, and norms may completely differ.”

According to Waeni, another challenge is loneliness as one leaves behind their support system. Also, making new friends could be pretty challenging.

“There is also financial strain. Relocating to a new country involves hidden costs. You might have to deal with higher living expenses, visa fees, or unexpected relocation expenses. Plan your finances carefully,” she wrote.

Waeni said that moving abroad might also cause homesickness.

“Finding ways to stay connected with your roots while embracing your new surroundings is essential. It's normal to feel homesick, but it gets easier with time.”

The final challenge she mentioned was an identity crisis.

“Moving to a new country can make you question your own identity. You may face doubts about who you are and where you belong. Take this as an opportunity to discover and redefine yourself.”
