Heartbroken Mother Painfully Recalls How Police Allegedly Removed Her Late Sons From House, Beat Them

• Koome is accused of sanctioning the police to mete brute force on demonstrators during the recent anti-government protests
• Two young men who were allegedly rounded and beaten by the police succumbed to injuries and were buried on August 12

Vihiga county - Two young men were laid to rest at their homes in Luanda and Kisumu after succumbing to injuries allegedly inflicted by the police during the anti-government protests.

Identified as William Amulele and Brian Oniong'o, the duo was rounded up by the police who descended on them in Nyalenda, Kisumu county.

Their mother Everlyne Ohamo strived to win against emotions and tears as she narrated to mourners how her children were allegedly roughed up by the police.

She is a foster mother to Brian and a blood one to William.

Inconsolable mother

The heartbroken woman while recalling the happenings on July 21 implied that her children were removed from their house and were being flogged by the law enforcers.

She said her efforts to defend them from the police failed to pay off as the officers chased her away.

"I'm a Nyalenda resident in Kisumu. It was on Friday, July 21, during the demonstrations. We were in the house as the police ran after the demonstrators. I had rented a single-roomed house for the two boys and I would send them there during the demos," she said.

Everlyne said the officers held that her sons had been captured throwing stones and thus went ahead to beat them.

After the beating, Brian and William went to the house writhing in pain.

They were later booked into a local dispensary where they were attended to but medics recommended referral to the county hospital.

The duo was later checked into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from where they died on diverse dates.

Pursuit for justice

Speaking during their funeral service, Azimio leader Raila Odinga laid the blame on Police Inspector General Japheth Koome, who he accused of overseeing and abetting roguery among the police.

Raila restate the resolve of his faction to pursue justice for those who sustained injuries and died at the hands of the police.

"We joined the people of Luanda in grieving the deaths of innocent Kenyans at the hands of police brutality:...Brian Oniang'o and William Amulele. We shall continue to pursue justice for them and other victims as we work to remove the shadows of injustice that linger over our land," he said.

The Opposition held on to its resolve to remove Koome from office.

He rattled Raila and his team when he recently claimed that they were renting bodies to claim they have been killed by the police.

They threatened to table a censure motion against the police boss.

"We are planning that when we leave here, we start the process of removing Koome from office," DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said.
