Nairobi - On Tuesday, August 22, President William Ruto appointed Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo as the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Before the appointment of Mulongo as the new Commissioner-General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), he was unknown to many.

Mulongo started his professional career in 1991.
He achieved a top 20 ranking in Kenya's 1986 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam at Uhuru Estate Primary School, demonstrating his high level of academic achievement.
At Alliance High School, where he attained the top national ranking in the 1990 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.
He majored in biochemical sciences at Harvard University and received an honorary degree after successfully cloning a gene essential to genetic switch mechanisms.
His academic journey continued at the Wharton School of Business, where he received the prestigious Nelson Mandela Hope Worldwide scholarship and graduated with a Master of Business Administration in Information Systems Strategy and Economics.
Mulongo also worked as a Commission of Revenue Allocation member for six years after his appointment by former president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016.
At the same time, Mulongo was the Managing Director at Meghraj Capital Group, operating in the investment baking industry.
On Thursday, February 23, former Commissioner General Githii Mburu resigned from his plum position at the helm of the authority to pursue personal interests.
The board announced Mburu's resignation, and Risper Simiyu, the commissioner of domestic taxes, was immediately named the acting boss.
In its statement, the KRA board said Simiyu would serve in the acting position until it is substantively and competitively filled.
"The board appreciates Mr Mburu for the service he has rendered to KRA and the Republic of Kenya and wishes him very well in his future endeavours," the board's communique stated in part.
