Kirinyaga county - Njeri Maina has moved to file a statement of plaint after she was recently attacked by goons.

Maina, who represents the aforementioned county in the National Assembly, was on Friday, August 25, accompanied to the DCIO at the Kerugoya Police Station by her supporters.

The MP's date with the investigators came days after the Speaker of the August House called for a speedy probe into the events that preceded her attack.

Speaker Moses Wetang'ula had led a host of other legislators from both houses in paying a visit to Maina, who was receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

The first-timer in parliament got injured on Tuesday, August 22, after goons disrupted her meeting in Kerugoya town.

According to sources, the attackers hurled stones at the meeting, hitting the lawmaker on the head.

Moses Wetang'ula's statement

The injury she sustained on her scalp saw her being clean-shaven to enable the medics to carry out a proper examination.

She would then be rushed to Nairobi for treatment.

While condemning the violence in which Maina got injured, the National Assembly Speaker called for thorough investigations that would see the culprits being brought to book.

"Maina is responding well to treatment at the hospital. She recounted to us the ordeals of the unfortunate incident that caused her serious injuries. I thank the doctors at the hospital for the medical attention they have given to our colleague and we wish her a quick recovery.
I reiterate that the National Assembly calls for thorough investigations by police officers into the matter. We condemn any form of violence to anybody, regardless of their standing in society," said Wetang'ula.

Maina linked Governor Anne Waiguru with the incident.

In one of her social media posts, the parliamentarian claimed Waiguru was contracting people to kill her.

"Governor Anne Waiguru, why do you want to kill me? I know you’ve sent your goons KSh 30,000 each to go to hiding through your agent called Kings," she claimed.

She succeeded Purity Ngirici, who gave a stab at the Kirinyaga governorship against Waiguru, who succeeded in her re-election bid.
