Thika Law Courts heard for the first time a case filed in 2020 involving a woman who was defrauded of KSh 4.5 million in borrowed money to an oil drilling scam.

A Juja woman who filed the case pleaded with the court to speed up justice as she sought a refund for the money she had borrowed and invested in the oil drilling business.

She said the case keeps stressing and giving her a hard time with her creditors, blaming the accused for not appearing in court proceedings.

"This case has caused me a lot of stress... it keeps delaying because it started in 2020 and has not been heard. Every time I come to court, I don't see the accused. They always give new reasons, and they put a lot of pressure on me because they took the money I borrowed, and I am indebted," said the woman, as quoted by Citizen TV.

The petitioner cried out that she has children to take care of, yet the case has been derailing that critical role she has to play.

She pleaded with the judge to hand her justice and help her settle the loan by recovering the money.

"...now I have stress and depression, and I am a mother raising small children, and sometimes I fail to provide for them. I humbly ask this court to help me end the stress. If the money comes back, I should pay the people and live a peaceful life," she continued.

Oil drilling companies in Kenya

The case attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some sympathising with her while others asking about oil drilling in Kenya.

"Kuna mwanaume ako behind that KSh 4.5 million (There is a man behind that KSh 4.5 million)

@WIS_NDOM asked;

"Hii Kenya aliona wapi oil? (Where did she see oil being drilled in Kenya?"

@JudyMuriuki4 said;

"May she get justice..."

Kenya made oil drilling headlines when commercial oil was discovered at the South Lokichar Basin in Turkana County.

Tullow Oil, a London-based firm, supervised the Turkana oil drilling project.

In August 2022, the government held talks with the firm that could see India acquire stakes worth KSh 356.7 billion in the Turkana Oil project.
