Nairobi - Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has poked holes in the issues that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party intend to discuss with Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

In a statement on his official Twitter handle, Kabando termed the five issues fronted by the Raila Odinga-led side as a mockery of the protests.

According to the former lawmaker, 80% of the issues raised by the opposition coalition are all about political power.

Kabando says issues by Azimio is mockery of protests

Kabando stated that the opposition's failure to push for an end to corruption, extrajudicial killings and impunity means they are only interested in political issues.

He regretted that anti-government demonstrators might never get justice if the Raila-led side insisted on the five issues already fronted to the bipartisan team.

"80% of issues listed by Azimio are on pure politics & political power. No mention of #Statecapture inquiry or #tjrc that would aid in ending corruption, political assassinations, extrajudicial killings & impunity. Political power minus justice is not worth the effort, mocks maandamano," Kabando said.

In a letter to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance dialogue team, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka cited five issues of concern to Azimio that they want to be discussed in the talks.

The issues include the cost of living, audit of the 2022 Presidential Election Results, restructuring and reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and related matters, measures to prevent interference with political parties and outstanding constitutional matters - governance issues, adequate checks and balances and the question of boundaries delimitation.

Kioni downplays Ruto-Raila peace talks

Meanwhile, embattled Jubilee Party secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni expressed his reservation over the issues the government slated for deliberations with the Azimio la Umoja political faction, saying they have nothing to do with Kenyans.

During the talks, the Kenya Kwanza representatives are under instructions to confine themselves within the reconstitution of IEBC, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of constituency development fund, establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Kioni said the lack of common ground as regards the issues to be discussed will jeopardise the dialogue.

According to him, the intended object of the engagements may not be realised if the sides will hold onto their respective stances.

"If you ask me, some of us are worried if there is any progress we are making. You can't say you are going to meet, yet you have not decided on the agenda for which you are meeting. If you will go to the table with conflicting agendas, how will you start? I don't think the discussions will be meaningful, it will be all play," Kioni said during an interview with Radio 47.
