Nairobi - Kenyans have criticised National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah over his remarks on the eminent talks between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The Kikuyu MP posted a sarcastic tweet after Ruto expressed interest in meeting with his political enemy, the ODM leader.

Kimani Ichung'wah criticised

In the tweet, Ichung'wah targeted former president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, saying they are begging to meet Ruto after realising he is the president.

"Now William Ruto, suddenly everyone wants to meet with you, even the one who 11 months ago didn’t even want to shake your hand nor talk to you now wants to and calls you “his president”. It is well, some progress. Happy that Baba has recovered from the flu but when did he start working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or as a state house spokesperson?" Ichung'wah posed.

However, sentiments by the outspoken lawmaker did not go down well with Kenyans, many who felt he was unfairly opposing a handshake between Ruto and Raila for personal reasons.

Those who commented on his tweet said Ichung'wah was scared the talks between the president and the ODM leader might impact his political future.

Juma G:

"Deep down you are shaking Kimani... Deep down, you are scared. You might spend the whole night praying and fasting that it doesn't happen, because what will you tell people? Deep down, you are as scared as hell Mr. Alliance!"

Cornelius K. Ronoh:

"Kimani Ichung'wah, is this meant to be a question for your boss? If Ruto were to shake hands with Raila, what would you say to people? Next time, consider picking your battles more wisely."

"When it finally happens because eventually it must happen, You will be the ultimate loser."

Uhuru ready for reconciliation with Ruto

Meanwhile, Uhuru disclosed his willingness to support the Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration.

Speaking to news editors on Monday, July 24, Uhuru said he was open to meeting the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader.

The former president stated that although he was not opposed to meeting Ruto, the latter has not contacted him.

Despite supporting the ODM leader in the last election, Uhuru said Ruto is currently his president following the outcome of the 2022 state house race.

Uhuru insisted that just like he approached the late Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi when he was in power, Ruto is supposed to look for him.

“I can't invite myself to talk with him but if he reaches out to me; he is my president and I will go. I went to Moi and Kibaki regularly to seek advice,” Uhuru said.
