Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi has accused Chinese contractors in his area of having children with women in his area instead of focusing on construction projects.

While thanking President William Ruto for the ongoing construction of the Misikhu-Naitiri-Brigadier, the lawmaker said the Chinese in the area are distracted by the women in the area.

Martin Wanyonyi's allegations

During an interdenominational church service in Bungoma on Sunday, the president and his deputy Rigathi were present; Wanyonyi said he had seen children of Chinese descent in the area.

"The Misikhu-Naitiri Road is not yet done. I was visiting there and got dismayed when I saw kids with small eyes...The contractors have forgotten their jobs and started making families. Your excellency, please help us unlock and finish the road," he said.

In his speech, the lawmaker also prevailed upon the deputy president to increase government appointments for the people of Bungoma.

"I know you are the gatekeeper of such shares. Give us some more Riggy G," he said.

Ruto's Western Kenya tour

President William Ruto kicked off a five-day tour of the Western region starting Saturday, August 26, in a move seen as his charm offensive to win the region's full support.

During the tour, the head of state launched several development projects in Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia and Vihiga counties.

Local leaders led by Chief Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula accompanied the president.

The five-day development tour also elicited a cocktail of emotions, with Opposition leaders in the vote-rich region dismissing it as a mere political rally meant to excite locals with “false promises”.

Musalia Mudavadi praises Ruto

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also dismissed claims by the opposition that Ruto’s government has sidelined other communities in state appointments.

Mudavadi, speaking in Busia on Saturday, August 26, during the launch of Mulukhoba Fish Landing Site, said the head of state had gone out of his way to include everyone in his government, including those from opposition strongholds.

“People have been alleging that President William Ruto’s government is not inclusive, but that is not true. We have people from all over. For our neighbours (from Nyanza), we have our brother Eliud Owalo (CS ICT), Raymond Omollo (PS internal security), Sylance Osele (Gov’t delivery) and many more,” said Mudavadi.
