Nairobi - Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged city residents to live as one and show compassion to each other.

Sakaja was speaking during the launch of the Dishi na County school feeding program, where he said Nairobi has become a place where people can die of hunger as neighbours feast.

Referring to the book of Philippians, Sakaja urged those with enough to share with those who have completely lacked something to eat.

"In Nairobi, we are one big family. In the book of Philippians, we find Paul very bewildered because he has heard that some other Corinthians have more than enough to eat, and others go hungry in the same community. Some feast, and others fast.

"Paul, who is always a hard worker, asked what can I say to you? How do you do this to those who have nothing? Nairobi has become where you can die hungry, but your neighbour is feasting," Sakaja said.

The county boss agreed that Nairobi had become a hard place to live, 'Shamba la mawe' as residents like to call it and asked residents to love each other.

"Nairobi has become a hard place to exist. I am asking my people to start loving each other. If you have something extra, look for your neighbour. We have become too competitive to the extent that we have too much and forget those who do not have," he pleaded.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, he acknowledged that there were bursting numbers of unemployed Nairobians and vowed to work to ensure a good number gets something to do.

His speech was interrupted when the woman, only identified as Millicent, made her way to the podium with her five children, one seated in a wheelchair.

The woman's face lit up when Sakaja reached into his pocket to get some money and handed it to her.
