Three children aged seven, six and two have been rescued from their house set on fire by their mother, who wanted to kill them after alleged domestic troubles with her husband.

Jennifer Nambiru, a housewife, allegedly torched her household property with the intent to kill her three children on the night of Sunday, August 13.

In a report by the Uganda Police Force, the children's cries for help alerted neighbours, who rushed to their rescue, and thankfully, they were not hurt by the inferno.

The fire was also extinguished before it could spread to neighbouring homes.

Nambiru had allegedly gathered the household belongings, ignited a fire, and locked her children inside the burning house, seemingly to end their lives.

"The Kisugu Police Station received a report of the incident, and a team of officers promptly responded to the scene. Additionally, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services from Kabalagala were called to ensure the safety of the victims and prevent further damage," the report indicated.

Long-standing marital differences

According to the Ugandan police, the suspect and her husband have been embroiled in long-standing domestic altercations.

"Preliminary investigations reveal that Jennifer Nambiru had been involved in long-standing domestic violence issues with her husband, Bululu Moses. The domestic violence matter had been previously addressed by local leaders and was under investigation by the CFPU Kisugu," the police said.

After attempting to kill her children, the mother escaped, and a manhunt has since been launched.

The police also asked for information that could lead to her arrest.

Kajiado attempts to kill her children

In a separate incident, police in Kajiado county investigated an incident where a middle-aged woman allegedly killed her two children after falling out with her husband.

The woman is said to have set the house she was sharing with the children at Saina village on fire.

The neighbour's attempts to rescue the children, who were calling for help, failed despite battling the inferno for hours.

The two minors, aged eight and two, burnt beyond recognition, while the woman was rescued and rushed to hospital with burnt injuries.
