Kakamega - Nuru Okanga, a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga, has slammed President William Ruto following the arrest of former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Okanga claimed the arrests were political and had nothing to do with the fight against corruption in the country.

The young man with political ambitions said it showed Ruto was afraid of Oparanya's influence.

"Why does he come to Western and target Oparanya? What does it mean to come somewhere and arrest someone? What kind of leader are you? When he came to Vihiga, he wanted to arrest Osotsi, and he fled," he told TUKO.co.ke.

He questioned what it meant for Oparanya to be arrested ahead of the president's visit to Kakamega in the coming week.

"Next week he's here in Kakamega they are arresting Oparanya. You can't arrest Oparanya, claiming he embezzled one billion. That's political. Ruto is coming to Western. We can't have our leaders being targeted all the time. We want Ruto to respect our constitution," Okanga stated.

Okanga said the head of state should give opposition leaders their own country, adding that they can't live under a tyrant.

Why is Okanga warning Ruto

The aspiring MCA further warned Ruto that power is transient and his stay at the highest office in the land would end.

He explained that Ruto doesn't know whatever his successor will have planned for him, stating that he should not use his position to oppress others.

"Why is he troubling our leaders? Ruto should remember that he will one day leave office. And whoever comes after him, he doesn't know who that will be. They shouldn't use their power to oppress those who have less. And let the DCI do their job. The DCI shouldn't be used for politics. That's wrong," he added.

Okanga says he can't betray Raila

Earlier, Okanga declared his unwavering loyalty to the opposition, standing firm with the citizens' interests and refusing to compromise his principles for personal gain.

He recounted how some individuals even suggested that aligning with the government would guarantee his safety, with claims of Ruto's approval and willingness to grant him any desire for his support.

However, despite the allure of the offers, Okanga asserted that his loyalty to Raila Odinga and the opposition remained steadfast.
