Nairobi - Former Meru governor Peter Munya has presented himself to court a few hours after police launched a manhunt for him.

Why Peter Munya failed to testify in graft case

An anti-corruption court ordered the police to present Munya to testify in the KSh 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dam corruption case against former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

However, Citizen Digital reported that the former Agriculture CS left the courtroom without speaking after the prosecution failed to question him.

The new turn of events happened after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) failed to question Munya about the scandal despite him having been the published scandal's key witness.

When Magistrate Eunice Nyutu forced state prosecutor Oliver Muriethi to lead Munya in testifying, he said he had no questions for the former governor.

"I have no question for the former Agriculture CS Munya in respect to this matter," state prosecutor Oliver Muriethi told Anti-Corruption magistrate Eunice Nyutu.

Why did the magistrate order Peter Munya to appear in court

The magistrate issued the orders after Munya had failed to appear in court within 90 minutes as directed.

"I order Munya to present himself in court by 11:15am. His warrant of arrest still stands," Magistrate Nyutu ordered, NTV reported.

The former Meru governor was expected to testify over his statement to the police in 2019 regarding the Arror and Kimwarer Dam saga.

In March 2019, Munya told the police that a top Cabinet official had called him twice, pressuring him to approve the release of KSh4 billion for the two dams.

He had claimed that a Principal Secretary attempted to lure him into signing the documents, but he refused.

Munya told the police, in a statement, that he refused to sign because he was new to the ministry and had noticed a lot of pressure from people he believed had vested interests.
