If someone had told Bradley Wanyonyi months ago that he would be a single dad of premature twins after his wife gave birth, it would have seemed like a big lie.

Wife at Mukuru Health Centre

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Wanyonyi explained that his late wife had a very easy pregnancy, and things only came to a head in the last month.

According to Wanyonyi, his wife had complained of pain, and on July 31, they visited a government dispensary, Mukuru Health Centre, and she was told to go for a scan.

"We got the results, and she was put on treatment; we later went back to the house and slept well," said Wanyonyi on August 17.

Wanyonyi finds newborn baby on floor

"On Tuesday, August 1, I left her in our Pipeline Estate house to go hustle, but in the evening, she called and instructed me to hop onto the nearest motorcycle and rush home. When I arrived home, I found one of the babies on the floor; she had delivered it herself," shared Wanyonyi.

Wanyonyi called their neighbours and a doctor who assisted him in taking her to a hospital in Kitengela.

"We tried to save her, but she bled a lot, which is why she died," he said.

The father of two said that the twins survived, and one of them had 32 weeks, seven days, while the other only had 32 weeks.

No milk at KNH

"It was baffling because initially, the scan showed that both babies were in a good position and everything was fine. The doctors just managed the pain," he explained.
The babies were born very small and had 1.8 kgs and another 1.3 kgs. We were told to look for their special milk called Prenana. We tried Nairobi Women's Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital and Mbagathi Hospital but didn't find anything," said Wanyonyi.

Where is Pumwani Maternity Hospital?

Kitengela Hospital wrote them a letter to take to Pumwani Maternity Hospital near Eastleigh, in Nairobi. The latter admitted the babies and gave them special milk.

Wanyonyi has since buried his wife so the pressure normally associated with funerals is no longer on his shoulder. His focus is now on the health of his babies.

"The challenge now is taking care of the babies who rely on other mums in the wards to donate some milk for them. I am just a hustler and need some help to start taking care of the babies, as I can't move around and hustle at the moment," he said.

Man who lost wife seeks justice

In another story, Robert Omondi hoped to raise his twin children with his wife, but her sudden death caused by medical negligence dealt him a blow.

Maureen Anyango delivered twins at the Mama Lucy Hospital hours after they were referred from Kayole Hospital, and nothing was okay afterwards.

Omondi noticed she was heavily bleeding, and the twin's shawls were soaked in blood. Shortly after, blood started flowing back to the drip she had.

Omondi's efforts to get nurses to attend to his wife bore no fruits as none of them showed up until the situation became worse and Anyango was too weak.
