The Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has blasted Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome after he accused the Opposition of hiring bodies to paint the police in bad light.

While expressing his disappointment with the IG over his comments on the violence that police officers allegedly meted on Azimio demonstrators, Raila said the victims had gunshot wounds proving the police had killed them.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, August 8, the Opposition leader said the victims' death certificates had details on the circumstances that led to their deaths.

A tough-talking Raila said he would not rest until the perpetrators of the police brutality are brought to book.

“I am very disappointed to see a statement from Inspector General Police Mr Koome saying that we hired dead bodies to accuse police of brutality. I don’t know he lives in which world because the bodies have bullet wounds and death certificates to prove the cause of death,” Raila said as quoted by NTV.

Azimio enlists Kioni for upcoming talks

Additionally, Azimio announced it had enlisted former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni to lead the Legal and Technical team for the impending peace talks with Kenya Kwanza.

According to a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, Azimio la Umoja said this strategic move underscores their commitment to a thorough and effective resolution of the nation's challenges.

"Regarding the forthcoming talks with Kenya Kwanza, we declare our readiness. We express our eagerness to reconvene at Bomas of Kenya, a sacred place in the context of reform, change, and national reconciliation," the leaders of the coalition said in a statement.

IG Koome accuses Azimio of hiring bodies

Earlier today, Tuesday, August 8, Koome accused Azimio of stage-managing bodies to paint the police in bad light.

During a media brief on Tuesday, August 8, at Kiganjo Police Training College, the IG stated that they had intelligence on political leaders compromising morgue attendants.

He alleged that the leaders posted the hired dead bodies and claimed the police killed them.
