A Turkish vendor found himself swept off his feet – quite literally – when he attempted to save his umbrella from a powerful gust of wind.

The man was watching over his merchandise when a strong wind erupted, threatening to blow away the umbrella on his kiosk.

Blown away by the wind

In an attempt to save the umbrella from flying away, he jumped and clutched onto it, hoping to keep it intact and on the ground.

Evidently, the vendor could not imagine the cherished item either toppling over on the stacks of food or drifting away to an unknown destination.

The umbrella, however, appeared to have a mind of its own as it abruptly lifted off the ground, leaving bystanders stunned and worried for his safety.

According to CBS News, the father of two was fortunate to come out of the incident with a few injuries but alive.

Spent 2 days in ICU

The incident which occurred in the eastern province of Erzurum and captured on video has since gone viral on social media.

In an interview with TRT World, the grocery store worker named Burak Abuc disclosed that he was discharged from a hospital following a two-day stay in the ICU.

"I was dragged across a distance of about five metres, when I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital," the 26-year-old said.

The video looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie, as Abuc's feet left the pavement and he soared into the air, gripping his umbrella like a child clinging to a toy.

Abuc is fully recovered and now finds the whole incident humorous.
