Nairobi - A video has shown the moment when a cunning thief was nabbed trying to snatch a man’s phone at Jamia Mosque.

Thief masquerades as Muslim worshipper

The incident, which was captured by a CCTV camera, has gone viral on social media and sparked outrage among netizens.

X (formerly Twitter) user @Kenyanstoriestj shared the video showing the heart-pounding moment when a man disguised as a fellow worshipper made his move.

With deceptive ease, the thief tried to capitalise on the unsuspecting victim's moment of ablution (wudu) to snatch his smartphone, conveniently placed by his side.

"Advice to my Muslim friends to watch your things. This is Jamia Mosque CBD," the video was captioned.

However, fate had other plans for the cunning thief. As he reached out to grab the smartphone, the owner, swift and perceptive, caught him red-handed.

The perpetrator's ill-fated attempt at a grab-and-run was immediately foiled, and the mosque's serene atmosphere was instantly disrupted by the confrontation as the thwarted thief struggled to defuse the situation.

Kiambu car break-in

Another brazen car breaking was captured on CCTV at Shell Fourways Petrol Station along Kiambu Road.

The chilling video captured the audacious thug breaking into a car moments after its owners had parked at a petrol station. The victims, had just left a bank in Westlands after processing a loan.

X user @maliks_88 shared the video with the caption:

"Nairobi. Juzi Some guys visited a bank in Westlands to process some cash issues and left with something in an envelope."

The post disclosed that the criminal, with his accomplices, followed the unsuspecting victims from the bank.

"Thugs assumed it was money and followed them up to Shell Fourways Kiambu Road, broke into their car...KDH 716 L...Fake plates, too," @maliks_88 added.
