William Ruto: Azimio Will Have No Agent In 2027 If They Continue With Maandamano
  • The mass action protests capitalised on by the Azimio La Umoja may not be good for them, as President William Ruto noted
  • According to Ruto, too much concentration on the streets' shenanigans to disobey the government will take the Opposition's time to prepare and strategise for the next vote
  • He counselled the Raila Odinga-led side to leverage the current routine of Cabinet ministers being grilled in the National Assembly for purposes of oversight

Nairobi - President William Ruto has predicted another loss for the Azimio coalition in the 2027 presidential election.

Ruto observed that the Raila Odinga-led faction is preoccupied with the mass action protests which will make them be caught up by time unprepared for the polls.

Azimio lost network - Ruto

Speaking in Kabartonjo, Baringo county, on Thursday, August 24, where he was launching a 78-Kilometre road, and issuing title deeds to locals, the president jested that the Raila team would lack agents due to overindulgence in the street protests.

"You dimmed Azimio's lights here until they lost the network completely. If they continue with these protests, don't they think will not have agents in the next vote? They ought to shelve their shenanigans and join us in building the nation," said Ruto.

The president counselled the Opposition to oversight the government through parliament in the place of going to the streets for anti-government protests.

Ruto's advice to Raila

He observed that it had become routine for members of the national executive to go to the National Assembly for questioning by the lawmakers there, arguing that would be the best form of oversight.

"I have told them that as a government, we don't have any problem with them undertaking their work. They are doing what the Constitution requires of them; to oversight the current administration. We are ready for that. Cabinet ministers go to the National Assembly for grilling by the lawmakers there. Is there any other better oversight than that? It is because we believe in accountability," said Ruto.

On the National Assembly grilling the members of the Cabinet, the latest to be questioned was Ababu Namwamba of Sports and Youth Affairs.

He was on Wednesday, August 23, put to task by the lawmakers over an array of issues bedevilling his docket.

The Cabinet Secretary had become a target of attacks from a host of lawmakers who lean toward the government.

Missing Talanta Hela app

Uasin Gishu MP Gladys Shollei picked a hole in the Talanta Hella App, which she observed was not functioning despite being launched by Ruto.

In his argument, Ababu explained that the software was yet to be activated, but there was progress in actualising it for public use.

The CS's explanation would not convince Shollei, who questioned why the president had to launch something still under development.

"He (Ababu) is confirming that the president launched something that was not ready. Because if it is not live to the public, it was not necessary to launch it. Let us get a confirmation that whatever was launched is something under construction," said Shollei.

The application would provide a platform through which sports people would avail their varied expertise for identification by potential sponsors and technicians.

Ababu is on record taking pride in the progress of the Talanta Hela program, whose committees were disbanded a few months back.
