Nairobi - Renson Mulele Ingonga is on his way to becoming Kenya's next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
This is after President William Ruto nominated him to the position on Thursday, August 17.
If approved for the position, Ingonga will succeed his former boss Noordin Haji who Ruto appointed as the head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). Haji had served in the capacity for five years.
Nation.Africa reported that the president forwarded his name to National Assembly for vetting.

Ruto picked Ingonga from a list of 15 individuals interviewed for the position by the Public Service Commission.
The interview exercise for the DPP position took two days, ending on August 2.
Before his nomination, Ingonga worked as an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions.
Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Thomas Letangule, Francis Andayi, lawyer Danstan Omari, Taib Ali, Jacinta Nyamosi, Victor Mule, and Tabitha Ouya were among the individuals shortlisted.
Others were David Ruto, Winston Ngaira, Peter Mailanyi, Lilian Okumu, Jacob Ondari, James Ndegwa, and David Okachi.
The selection panel for recruitment of the Director of Public Prosecutions had called on interested persons to apply to become the new DPP on June 23, 2023.
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that some of the politicians allied to President Ruto had trust issues with Haji following his appointment as the NIS director a month after he started his stint.
The former DPP took over the reins at the intelligence service on June 14, after the end of General Philip Kameru's tenure.
In a meeting at State House, Nairobi, the Kenya Kwanza leaders alleged Haji was spying for the opposition, adding that he had been striving to broker a truce between the president and Raila Odinga.
Besides Raila, the leaders claim Haji has close ties with the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.
"It should be known that Noordin Haji has been spotted with Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta. He ought to decide whether he is a politician allied to Azimio, or he is a public servant," one of the politicians is quoted by Taifa Leo as having said.
They also asserted that the opposition had got the government off guard with its deadly mass action protests due to the complacency in Haji's docket.
The leaders wanted Haji to be summoned by both the National Assembly and the Senate for a dress-down. Some wanted him removed from the office.
