Woman Mistaken For Mathe Wa Ngara Goes Missing At Muthaiga Police Station, Family Raises Concerns

• On Tuesday, the court was to rule on the bail application by Teresia Wanjiru (fake mathe wa Ngara), who was apprehended over suspected drug peddling
• Wanjiru, who was being detained at the Muthaiga Police Station, could not appear before Magistrate Njeri Thuku, with her family and lawyers now raising concern
• While announcing Wanjiru's arrest, the country's top investigative agency DCI claimed she was partaking in drug trafficking with three teenagers

Nairobi - Fake 'mathe wa Ngara' is being sought by her family and lawyers after she went missing from the Muthaiga Police Station where she was being detained.

Teresia Wanjiru was arrested with three others of juvenile age in connection with suspected drug peddling.

Fake 'mathe wa Ngara' goes missing

The quartet was detained as the investigators concluded their work.

The court would, however, fail to rule on her bail application after she could not be traced.

JKIA magistrate Njeri Thuku would not go ahead to rule on the prayer for bail placed by her lawyers, who said they had embarked on searching for her, NTV reported.

Members of her family who had brought her food in detention also claimed they did not find her.

The magistrate ordered that she be availed in court on the morning of Wednesday, August 23.

Meanwhile, a twist was accorded to the matter after the state investigators arrested another woman believed to be the real mastermind of the drug-peddling syndicate.

Real 'mathe wa Ngara' arrested

Nancy Kigunzu, a businesswoman, is believed to be the real 'mathe wa Ngara'.

Kizungu, who has been on the run for days, was arrested in Nairobi Central Business District on Monday, August 21.

The suspect, accused of allegedly being involved in drug trafficking and supplying narcotics to various parts of the city, was taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road for interrogation.

Kizungu went into hiding from Tuesday, August 15, when police raided her den in Ngara and recovered KSh 13.4 million and narcotic drugs.

Ahead of her arrest, the businesswoman had moved to the Milimani Law Courts, seeking anticipatory bail.

In a case filed by her advocate Shanice Maingi, Kigunzu described herself as a law-abiding Kenyan with a legitimate source of income and asked for protection from arrest.

The businesswoman said she has never committed any crime in Kenya and has never been summoned by police officers or charged with any crime.

Kigunzu had claimed her impending arrest was meant to block her from running her legitimate business.

"The applicant is of the firm belief that the timing of the arrest is designed to intimidate and ensure that she does not continue running her business here in Kenya," read court papers.

Magistrate Thuku will also rule on her bail application on Wednesday.
