Thousands of Worldcoin users were not able to access the free cryptocurrency coins they earned after scanning their eyeballs for the better part of Monday, August 7.

Users who tried to access the tokens received messages showing try again later, which the company confirmed to be a system breakdown.

The company urged users to be patient as it worked on resolving the matter, saying it has received more traffic than ever before.

Worldcoin told users not to submit multiple tickets as they waited for the system to stabilise and get their grants.

Meanwhile, after the system was restored, tens of thousands of users managed to withdraw the 10 WLD grants worth KSh 3,000.

More than 350,000 Kenyans registered for the cryptocurrency craze as of Tuesday, August 1, one week after its launch in the country.

Converting worldcoin WLD coins to Kenya shillings

However, the majority did not know how to convert the coins to Kenya shilling, a move that prompted cryptocurrency traders in the country to take advantage.

A Kenyan lady, a cryptocurrency trader helping many to convert the coins, told TUKO.co.ke that the conversion rate varies since the assets are volatile.

"I am helping people to convert the 25WLD coins to Kenya shillings. The Worldcoin team helps you download the app, scan your eyes and give you 25 free coins in the app. This is where I come in, people don't know how to convert, and I help them depending on the crypto rates.
Cryptocurrency is volatile. It goes up and down. Like today, most people were buying between KSh 250 per coin to KSh 270," said Wangare.

Wangare said she converts the coins at the rate of KSh 270, giving the owners KSh 6,750 for the 25WLD coins.

This followed the government directive blocking the eye-scanning activities at various orb-stationed centres.
