Odell Beckham Jr. May Take Out $100 Million Insurance Policy For 2017 Season

Odell Beckham Jr. is arguably the best receiver in the NFL right now, having broken a bevy of records over the course of his first three seasons in the league. But despite being one of the best receivers, he is clearly not paid like one. The fourth-year pro is slated to make just south of $2 million in base salary for the 2017 season, a far cry from the salaries of other top tier receivers, such as Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. As Odell has made well known this offseason, he is looking to get paid; and if sources close to the Giants star are to be believed, he is willing to shell out big bucks in order to ensure he gets his money.

According to sources close to Odell Beckham Jr., the wideout is looking into the option of acquiring a large insurance policy worth over $100 million in injury protection, in the event that he doesn't reach a contract extension with the Giants prior to the start of the NFL season. The sources say that Beckham and his people have been looking into injury insurance prior to the start of last Monday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, in which Odell suffered a sprained ankle after a hit from Browns cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

"[If a deal isn't done] by the regular season, he'll take steps to protect himself. [But] a new deal is preferable to adding insurance," a source told Yahoo Sports.

An insurance policy north of $100 million would probably cost Beckham over $600,000, according to the sources.

Beckham is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, and is locked in until next year as a result of the Giants picking up his fifth year option. If an extension can't be reached with the Giants, he will make $8.46 million next year.

Despite his salary more than quadrupling next year though, Beckham believes he deserves much more. He said earlier this offseason that he feels like he should be the highest paid player in the league. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.
