South Africa - The Limpopo Department of Education is reeling from anguish following a fatal accident that claimed the lives of several teachers while en route to work.

On Wednesday, May 29, a tragic accident occurred on the Polokwane-Dendron Road in Limpopo involving a minibus taxi and a truck.

The collision claimed the lives of 13 individuals, including 10 teachers, the taxi and truck drivers, and an Eskom employee.

The identities of the deceased teachers, who were employed in schools across the Senwabarwana area, have not yet been disclosed.

What led to Polokwane-Dendron Road accident?

Poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions in the region has been cited by the police as a contributing factor to the accident, according to SABC News.

An investigation has been initiated to further understand the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.

"This morning, the whole Polokwane including this route was so misty that you could not see the road. I think it could have been a contributing factor. But then at this point, we are just waiting for those doing motor vehicle investigation to check what happened in this case," said Limpopo police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe.

2 killed, 8 injured in Salgaa accident

Back home, two people were killed in a tragic accident in the Sobea area in Salgaa, Nakuru county.

The accident occurred after a trailer which was avoiding an overtaking Probox collided with a matatu and veered off the road, according to eyewitnesses

As a result, eight people who sustained injuries were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for urgent treatment as police officers launched an investigation into the accident.
