Kiambu - A Kiambu law court magistrate has ordered the main suspect in the shooting of Antony Njomo to be detained for 14 days.
On Tuesday, May 28, Dennis Mwai Irungu, the police officer implicated in the murder of a U.S. Embassy staffer who was shot dead outside a Kiambu nightclub, was arraigned before Kiambu Magistrate Wanjiru Ng'ang'a.
In the affidavit, Corporal Reuben Mwaniki of the DCI sought to detain Irungu, saying they needed more time to gather evidence and round up witnesses.

Detectives explained to the magistrate how Antony was having fun at Qukin Bar and Lounge in Kiambu moments before he was shot dead.
"At the time of his death, the deceased was outside the pub having a conversation with a friend when the respondent shot him from the back," Mwaniki told the court, as reported by Citizen Digital.
The DCI pleaded with the magistrate to allow them to hold the suspect for more days, arguing that he would likely interfere with the witnesses.
"He is a murder suspect, and procedure also requires that he be evaluated mentally and be remanded at Kiambu Police Station for 14 days. We also believe he is in a position to interfere with witnesses," the DCI added.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ng'anga agreed with the prosecution, saying there was a need for more time to conclude the investigations and that there was a likelihood the respondent would interfere with witnesses.
"A life was lost, and it is for this reason and in the interest of justice that I am satisfied that the application has merit and is, therefore, allowed. The respondent shall be detained for 14 days pending investigations," the magistrates ruled.
As police continue with the investigations, CCTV footage that captured the moment Antony was shot dead has emerged.
The footage shared by Citizen TV shows the sequence of events leading to the tragic death of the American Embassy employee.
The footage shows Njomo standing outside the Qukin Lounge moments before a group of men emerge from the club in a heated argument.
