Narok - Grief and despair has descended on the Maasai Mara University fraternity as the body of the second student who drowned together with her friend is found near Tanzania.

Eric Mutuku and Esther Kimaiga went on an adventure when they drowned in the Enkare River on Thursday, April 25.

The incident sent shockwaves across the institution, with Narok County Commissioner Kapkech Lotiatia leading the search mission for the bodies.

Days after the incident, Mutuku's body was reportedly retrieved on Sunday, April 28, evening after hours of search.

Kimaiga, a native of Nyamokono, Gesima ward in Nyamira county, was found towards Kenya's border with Tanzania.

How did two Maasai Mara University students drown

According to preliminary investigations, the two second-year students attempted to cross a narrow bridge when they slipped and were swept away by the swift currents of the swollen river.

One of the students is believed to have tripped, and while the other tried to pull the other, they were swept away by the strong currents.

"They were two youths who were trying to cross to the other side but instead passed through an impassable section. There is a bridge, but it seems they became just curious to know the extent of the river’s overflow…one of them tripped, and as the partner was trying to help him, he fell, and they were swept away," Loltiatia stated.

How did Tiberious Mamwacha drown

In related news, South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) was thrown into mourning following the tragic loss of a first-year student.

The first-year student lost his life following a drowning accident in the Mwita Syano River located at SEKU premises.

Tiberious Mamwacha, aged 20, was in the company of two others when they went swimming students on Friday swimming.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, the three students were captured having fun as they swam in the flooded river.

The student filming others swimming could be heard encouraging others to continue swimming toward the river bank.

However, what started as innocent fun turned into a nightmare after Mwamwacha drowned as his colleagues watched helplessly.
