President William Ruto's close aide, Faruk Kibet, has joined the ongoing debate on the tax proposals in the Finance Bill 2024.

Farouk hinted that the government is making amendments to the bill already tabled before the National Assembly.

Farouk stated that Ruto would not burden Kenyans by allowing more taxes on bread.

However, the president's close aide told Ruto about the introduction of more taxes on alcoholic products as a way of fighting illicit brews in the country.

"If the president wants to end the alcohol menace, he should add more taxes on alcohol,, not bread. We are supposed to tax alcohol more. But you will be surprised to see even Christians opposing taxes on alcohol. We need to introduce more taxes so as to generate revenue but not on bread," Farouk said.

Azimio threatens mass protest over Finance Bill 2024

Meanwhile, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party warned the Kenya Kwanza government against pushing for the passage of the proposed Finance Bill 2024.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka rallied opposition MPs to reject the contentious bill when tabled in parliament.

Kalonzo threatened mass action if the Kenya Kwanza administration ignored Kenyans' concerns and implemented the bill as it is, just like they did with the Finance Bill 2023.
