A former employee of the Kenyatta National Hospital faces a seven-year jail term for stealing medicines valued at KSh 15, 156.

Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, while delivering the verdict on Thursday, May 23, said that the medical supplies came in possession of the convict, Magdaline Wambui, by her employment.

Citizen Digital reported that Wambui was found with the supplies at the facility's gate by security officers.

"The court further heard that the accused was found carrying the medicines by security officers while leaving the hospital," the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said.

The convict was charged with two offences: theft by a servant, in violation of Section 281 of the Penal Code, and dealing with stolen property, as outlined in Section 322(1) in conjunction with Section 322(2) of the Penal Code.

"If the offender is a clerk or servant, and the thing stolen is a property of his employer or came into the possession of the offender on account of his employer, he is liable to imprisonment for seven years," reads section 281 of the penal code.

What medicines was Magdaline Wambui caught with?

According to ODPP, Wambui was nabbed while carrying a stash of medicines that included seven packets of Nepilet Nebivolon 5mg prescriptions, and two packets of Atacand Candesartan 8mg.

Additionally, the guard discovered that the convict also had two packets of AIRTAL 100mg, two packets of Sildenafil 25g, and one packet of Lamotrigine Lamictal 100mg.

Chief Magistrate Shitubi said Wambui will be sentenced on May 28, 2024.

Mombasa man sentenced to 30 years in prison

In another story, a Mombasa man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for pouring acid on his former girlfriend's eyes.

The court heard that the convict acted in revenge after the victim ended their short-term relationship.

As a result of his actions, the victim who was only working as a house help became permanently blind.
