Lorna disclosed that her father was always close to his Bible and read it from cover to cover every year.

She said the tradition brought him immense peace and understanding, especially during challenging moments.

"I remember in 2022, which was an extremely difficult period for him, he read it cover to cover twice in the same year," she said.

Francis Ogolla returned to university in adulthood

The same spirit was embodied in the man's love for working hard, with the daughter indicating that he never had to force them to perform.

Arguably, one of the family's most memorable moments was their father's return to the university to study with his children's peers.

The decision was difficult as he had to commute between Nanyuki and the University of Nairobi.

"Operation Linda Nchi was in progress, and he had a lot of responsibilities, but this man excelled with first-class honours," she said.

My father worked for God, Lorna

Lorna posited that her father worked as if he did it for God, his primary audience, and they saw it.

"Because we saw him do it, we were inspired to do it, and that's the easiest way to teach your children," she praised.

Based on her father's example, Lorna advised parents to lead by example instead of telling their children what to do.

She also advised the public to pursue excellence and work as if no one else was watching because the reward was in Heaven.

"My father didn't need the title to lead, he had so many ideas and a big heart for this nation. He had a big love for his family," Lorna reiterated.

Please help find my dad's Bible, Joel

Lorna's sentiments corroborated her brother Joel's speech in which he indicated that their father never left the good book behind.

He added that his father's commitment to this annual ritual was more than just reading but a way of life he embraced wholeheartedly.

"I am sure that his Bible is lying in that wreckage. If they manage to find it, I would like to keep it as a momento," he requested.

His family disclosed this practice was a source of strength and guidance for him, influencing his actions and decisions throughout his life.

What you need to know about Francis Ogolla:

  • Lorna and Joel's words explain why the decorated military man chose to be buried in a simple ceremony wrapped in sheets, like biblical Jesus.
  • Given that he preferred being buried without a casket, Ogolla's family got him a simple coffin worth KSh 6,800.
  • Another of his wishes was that he be buried within 72 hours of passing, a wish that his family honoured.
