Nairobi - Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has released the latest update on the flood situation in the country.
In a statement on Sunday, May 5, Mwaura said the number of people killed by flooding and other impacts of the heavy rains has risen to 228.

The latest number follows the recovery of nine bodies including two children, in the last 24 hours due to flood-related incidents.
According to Mwaura, the ongoing floods have left 168 people nursing various injuries, with 72 others still missing.
Mwaura said approximately 212,630 people from 42,526 households have been displaced by the floods countrywide.
"The government conveys its heartfelt condolences to friends and families who have lost their loved ones," Mwaura said.
The government spokesperson warned that further flooding was expected in low-lying areas countrywide.
"Expected in low-lying areas, riparian areas and urban areas while landslides/mudslides may occur in areas with steep slopes, escarpments and ravines," he added.
In other news, former MP Alfred Keter asked President William Ruto to have empathy for Kenyans suffering due to floods and declare it a national disaster.
Echoing his sentiments on Wednesday evening, Azimio leader Raila Odinga urged, as he disclosed that MPs from Azimio had donated KSh 1 million.
