The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced plans to remove all eucalyptus trees along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway at Sachang'wan, Koibatek in Baringo county as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc.

This decision comes as a response to the trees posing a significant hazard to road safety due to their precarious positioning and the ongoing heavy rains in the area.

"This is because the trees have been assessed and deemed to be hanging dangerously and are at risk of falling on the highway due to the ongoing heavy rainfalls," read the statement in part.

Who will cut the eucalyptus trees?

The initiative will be executed in collaboration with the Baringo county government, the Ministry of Roads and Transport, and Kenya Power.

Additionally, the traffic management authorities and the National Police Service will be actively involved to ensure smooth traffic flow during the tree removal process.

KFS has urged citizens to promptly report any trees posing a danger to road users to the nearest forest station.

"The service takes this opportunity to encourage all citizens to observe safety precautions and report any trees in danger of falling to the nearest forest station," KFS added.

2 trees fall at Moi Avenue, Nairobi

In another story, two trees at the Nairobi CBD fell due to heavy rainfall experienced in the county in the first week.

The event disrupted movement, with pedestrians being asked to use alternative routes for the better part of the fateful day.

The trees were later uprooted due to the obstruction they were causing in the bustling city.
