Iran has finally taken action by launching a massive assault on Israel, utilising hundreds of aerial drones and missiles, as they had promised on April 1, 2024.

In response to a strike on its consulate in Syria, which claimed the lives of seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers, including a prominent commander, the country had pledged to retaliate.

According to Iran's IRGC, the attack targeted specific objectives, as reported by BBC.

On Saturday, April 13, the attack signified the initial confrontation between the longstanding adversaries involved in a prolonged covert conflict, where Iran employs proxy militias.

"Iran and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria, and Iraq launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel," US President Joe Biden said, expressing strong condemnation.

According to the Israeli military, over 300 cruise missiles and drones were intercepted by Israel and other nations, primarily outside of Israeli airspace.

Effects of Iran's attack on Israel?

Following the Iranian attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a war cabinet meeting and subsequently had a conversation with President Biden, who expressed his unwavering commitment to Israel's security.

Yoav Gallant, Israel's Defence Minister, stated that "minimal damage was inflicted" but cautioned that the "campaign is still ongoing" and emphasised the need for Israel to "stay vigilant."

Nevertheless, the ambulance service of Israel reported an injured seven-year-old Bedouin girl from debris in the southern Arad region.

Tension as Hamas deputy leader is killed

Meanwhile, an armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian militant groups has been taking place in and around the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

On January 2, an explosion hit southern Beirut, Lebanon destroying several cars and killing Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri.

Najib Mikati, Lebanon's caretaker prime minister condemned the attack stating that the new Israeli crime was intended to draw Lebanon into a new phase of confrontations with Israel.
