Why did William Ruto meet Martha Koome

On February 2, JSC announced vacancies for 11 Court of Appeal judges who are expected to serve until they reach either the retirement age of 65 years for early retirees or 70 years as mandated by law.

Following a meeting on January 22 between President William Ruto and Chief Justice Koome, an announcement was made wherein the government pledged to appoint 25 judges to the High Court and 11 judges to the Court of Appeal.

JSC Chairperson and Chief Justice Martha Koome stated that judges would receive a gross monthly salary ranging from KSh 775,845 to KSh 1,187,152, as per the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines.

Wafula Chebukati rejected by JSC

As reported earlier, former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati is among those who were not shortlisted for the Court of Appeal judge interview.

Chebukati had applied for the position following the JSC advertisement on February 2, which listed vacancies within the Court of Appeal.

Other prominent individuals who were not shortlisted include former IEBC vice chair Lilian Mahiri Zaja, Justice Nixon Sifuna and Centre of Multiparty Democracy (CMD) chair Priscilla Nyokabi.
