Siaya governor James Orengo called out Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak for insinuating he would arrest him over graft.

What did Twalib Mbarak do?

While speaking to the media on Thursday, April 25, Mbarak hinted at an ongoing investigation into Siaya county's operations.

The remarks followed Orengo's presence at the EACC headquarters on Tuesday, where he represented former Treasury Cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani in a corruption matter.

According to a report from EACC, Yatani was arrested over mismanagement of funds during his time as Marsabit governor.

After his release, Orengo addressed the media, where he bashed the commission and asked them to adhere to the law when doing their work.

These words seemingly offended Mbarak who responded by saying that people tend to make noise whenever EACC arrests someone.

He added that people make assumptions that the arrests carried out by the commission are usually influenced by individuals either from the government or the opposition.

Mbarak further stated that the commission is focused on Orengo's county and that they may end up going for him.

Governor James Orengo's response to EACC

In a press statement, Orengo termed Mbarak's allegations as reckless, irresponsible, unjustified, and legally inexcusable.

Orengo, however, dared Mbarak to continue with his alleged investigations on Siaya county, saying that there have been many arrests in the county, but no prosecutions have been made.

" There have been arrests in Siaya county as long as six years ago. But no prosecutions. Complaints in regard thereto have been made many a time. But apropos the governor, we say bring it on without delay. We are unbwogable," the statement read in part.

EACC summons Mwangi Wa Iria

Elsewhere, EACC summoned former Murang'a governor Mwangi wa Iria and his wife, Jane Waigwe Kimani, to appear at the Integrity Centre on Tuesday, April 17 at 8am.

According to EACC, Iria, his wife and six other individuals, were avoiding arrest in connection with a procurement tender valued at KSh 140 million.

Following an investigation by the EACC, the Director of Public Prosecution authorised charges against them.
